Looks like I have found some extra time in my day. Thank you NCAA Tournament!!!
So I thought maybe I would post some good times from room 504. I will start with the Fun Run. This is a great way that the school raises money. I love all the physical activity that the kids are allowed to get. The dance party at the end was an added bonus. If your kids need to wiggle this upcoming chilly weekend, then play this choreography video for the winter Musical.
"Move It or Lose It" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShCqJrokqfM As a teacher, I always welcome opportunities to give children a glimpse into professions they might not otherwise think about. We had an opportunity today to connect one of those professions with our social studies learning in third grade. Mrs. Cockman helped us arrange for a Superior Court Judge ( her daddy) to come to our class and speak. We were pleased to welcome Mr. Roberson into our classroom. Highlights:
- the oohs and aahs when Mr. Roberson put on his robe - the look on Zion's eyes when he was handed the gavel - the pensive questions that Kathryn, Kora and other students asked -the self control exhibited by all students Thank you Judge Roberson for your time and your teaching!! The first week of school was filled with many fun activities. My main objective was to get the children to know each other as much as possible, as soon as possible. The children really enjoyed various name games and getting to know you games such as the friendship web, student bingo, and more. Check out some of the activities we did describing ourselves and getting to know one another. Each new school year begins teacher workdays. But this year's teacher workdays were extra special this year because we got to pause in our getting ready for the school year to view the lunar eclipse. Here are some images of Apex elementary teachers and a few Apex elementary students witnessing the eclipse. Some of us had glasses. So made eclipse boxes. I found the experience to be creepy and cool at the same time. My favorite part was seeing the patterns of the moon/sun shadows, on the ground, through the leaves of the trees. Today was a very exciting day in third grade! It's a day, as third-grade teachers , that we love to promote because it helps to instill a love of reading and open eyes up to different genres that kids maybe have not experimented with. Today, each of the five third-grade teachers was a "server ". The teachers traveled from room to room in 20 minute time blocks to introduce the students to different genres of reading. Within the classroom, the students had placemats on which they could jot down notes and feelings about texts so that they can talk about them later and decide which ones they like least, which ones they like best and which ones they would like to "sample again". Be sure to ask your child about this special day. Be sure to look for his or her placement coming home next week. Cheers to great books!! Stay tuned for photos and info about what is happening in class.
